5:30 a.m. run in Chicago, 4 miles, fast clip. It's dark, my feet a bit unsure of the road, eyes adjusting to the little light there is. It's a full moon and as I pass the field by the nature preserve, I can see the fog rising off the grass. No deer this morning, but I did startle a skunk in someone's yard. I could hardly see him, a black shape, tail raised, running in the opposite direction from me. The people with the willow that hangs over the path have trimmed it, and I'm grateful, as there was no way to get around the drooping branches, and in the dark I was anticipating a rough slap of leaves. Good run, hoping to get on an earlier flight to NY.
